Active staff protection
Safety is the foundation of PLASMAIR
An integrated architecture of sensors, alarms and automatic controls designed to maintain safe operating conditions during both daytime and nighttime cycles.

Safe environmental decontamination through integrated technological innovation
The Safety Box supervises environmental sensors, alarm conditions and safety interlocks throughout the decontamination process. It automatically manages access control, emergency conditions and environmental thresholds to maintain operator safety during all operating phases.
Control system
The Safety Box: the central safety controller.
The Safety Box supervises and manages all safety signals from PLASMAIR, access Consent Boxes and UPS-supported emergency systems.
Digital sensors installed in the controlled environment
Air quality control in classified environments using CO₂, ozone, pressure, relative humidity and temperature sensors.
Software and external systems control
Control of the environmental sensor software, presence sensors, AHU dampers and door‑closing systems for room access.
Access point monitoring via Consent Boxes
24/7 comparison between alarm presence sensors and environmental sensors to verify configured alarm thresholds.
Automatic safety countermeasures in alarm conditions
If alarm thresholds are exceeded, the Safety Box automatically shuts down plasma generation and activates emergency ventilation and safety procedures.
Critical safety function: the Safety Box automatically interrupts the decontamination cycle, activates forced air extraction and restores normal ventilation in the event of anomalies, alarm conditions or unauthorised access during intensive decontamination.
Access protection
The Safety Box: the central safety controller.
The Safety Box supervises and manages all safety signals from PLASMAIR, access Consent Boxes and UPS-supported emergency systems.
Red warning light
Activated when an alarm condition is detected or when personnel approach the access door during decontamination.
Yellow status light
Indicates that the system is operating in controlled cycle mode
Acoustic alarm
Activates when movement or unauthorised access is detected.
Motion sensor
Detects personnel approaching the controlled access area
RFID access control
Monitors door opening status during active decontamination cycles.

Safety sequence: If a person approaches within a few meters of the door during the intensive cycle, the Consent Box switches on the red light and activates the acoustic warning signal. If the door is nevertheless opened, the Safety Box triggers the alarm connected to multiple alert points for the designated supervisors, interrupts the cycle, activates forced extraction, and restores ventilation.
Fail-safe sequence
- Personnel approach detected
- Visual and acoustic warning activated
- Door opening detected
- Plasma generation interrupted
- Forced extraction activated
- Normal HVAC ventilation restored
- Alarm notification and event logging
Operating logic
How the Consent Box communicates with the Safety Box
Operating sequence during the intensive cycle
1
Cycle start: PLASMAir starts the intensive decontamination cycle. The Safety Box then transmits the operating status to all Consent Boxes, activating the yellow status light.
2
Approach detected: If personnel approach an access door, the motion sensor activates the acoustic alarm and red warning light. If the area is cleared, the system automatically returns to standby warning mode.
3
Door opening: Door opening detected. If the door is opened during the active cycle, the magnetic contact immediately transmits an alarm signal to the Safety Box.
4
Automatic fail-safe response:
The Safety Box immediately interrupts plasma generation, activates forced air extraction and restores standard HVAC ventilation conditions.
5
Remote alarm transmission: The Consent Box can forward emergency signals to additional safety stations and optional external communication systems for distributed alarm management.
6
Alarm reset and safe condition recovery: The Safety Box receives confirmation from the Consent Box that environmental parameters have returned within safe operating thresholds and that the alarm condition has cleared, allowing restoration of the standard operating cycle. The standard operating cycle can be restarted by authorised personnel once safe conditions are confirmed.
Protection in case of emergency
Integrated manual emergency alarm
The Consent Box is also connected to a manual emergency alarm system for critical situations such as fire alarms, emergency evacuation procedures or unexpected system anomalies.
The emergency shutdown can be activated manually whenever PLASMAIR must be stopped immediately.
1
Emergency button: Remote emergency red button connectable to any Consent Box for immediate shutdown.
2
Immediate shutdown: Activation of the emergency button immediately stops plasma generation and restores normal ventilation conditions.
3
Forced room air extraction starts automatically, ensuring rapid plasma removal.
4
Visual and acoustic emergency signalling is activated at all points to warn staff that an emergency procedure is in progress.
Certifications and compliance
Compliance with European safety standards
Standard 01
Ambient air quality directive. PLASMAIR keeps the daytime cycle between 0–50 ppb, well below the threshold of 120 µg/m³ (60 ppb) for public health protection.
Standard 02
Compatible PPE solutions compliant with EN 140 and EN 143 standards can be integrated for emergency access procedures.
Standard 03
Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. PLASMAIR guarantees compliance with continuous monitoring, environmental control and audit documentation requirements.
Safety features
A robust, multi‑layer safety system
Sensor redundancy
Two independent O₃ sensors ensure continuous cross-check monitoring and immediate anomaly detection.
Instant response
Immediate alarm activation within milliseconds after anomaly detection.
Automatic ozone removal
At the end of the intensive cycle, the system automatically removes residual ozone before personnel re-entry.
Logging and documentation
All operational events, alarms and access activities are logged for audit traceability and clinical documentation.
Multimodal alarms
Red lights (distance), yellow lights (proximity) and acoustic alarms ensure clear warning perception even in noisy or high-activity environments.
Staff control
The Consent Box emergency controls allow immediate operator intervention in critical situations.
